This web site offers you several ideas to where you may go when you visit Fogo Island, and we offer some information and pictures of these places that you can enjoy and remember. All of these places are spread throughout the whole island, leaving you able to explore the whole island and all it has to offer. It also allows you to interact with the people of Fogo Island through the Message Board, and you can leave your impression in the guestbook.

The island was originally inhabited by the Beothuks during the summer months, but it was taken over by the Europeans in the early 1500's. The name Fogo originated from the Portuguese word Fuego, which means "fire". The island was called this due to the fires the Beothuks would have at their camps. The Island consists of eleven different communities with a total population of approximately 3000 people. During the resettlement program of the 1960's, Fogo Islanders refused to move and Fogo Island has grown to be a leader in the fishing industry.

So look around and see what Fogo Island has to offer you.
